Why a trailer rather than a roll-off
The difference is not the box, it is how it gets onto your property. A roll-off is dragged off a truck on steel rollers and dragged back on when it leaves, which is hard on a driveway and needs considerable clearance to manoeuvre. A dump trailer is towed in on wheels, set down on the driveway, and towed out. On a paver drive or a tight lot that is the whole argument.
The other practical difference is loading height. A trailer sits low enough to walk material in over the side or up the ramp, which matters a great deal when the load is heavy — you are lifting a few inches rather than over a container wall.
Weight is the limit people miss
Landscape and dock debris from a lakefront property is nearly always wetter and heavier than it looks. Load conservatively and expect to need the weight allowance.
What cannot go in
- Paint, solvents, chemicals and other household hazardous waste
- Tires, batteries and anything containing refrigerant
- Asbestos-containing material, which requires licensed abatement
- Anything actively burning or hot
- Liquids of any kind

Before we arrive
- 1Clear the drop spot and give us room to back in with a truck and trailer.
- 2Move vehicles well clear — more room than looks necessary.
- 3Check for low branches and overhead lines on the route in.
- 4Think about ground condition after rain; soft ground is a real consideration.
- 5Have a plan for where the heavy material goes in the trailer, because it should go in first and low.
